Start with your goal. Whether you want to raise more than the year before,
create an unforgettable event, or both — your goal shapes every decision
that follows, including the venue.
Know your strengths. Are you a numbers person, a researcher, or a creative?
Understanding where you naturally gravitate helps you identify
who you'll need alongside you.
The OHES auction can run across ten workstreams from Finance and Sponsorships
to Event Operations and Communications and each one needs a lead.
You don't have to do it all. Find people whose strengths complement yours,
give them real ownership, and lean into their passions.
Strong communication tools make a big difference. A shared Google Drive,
an online meeting platform with auto-generated notes (like Zoom), and a group
chat for the committee will keep everyone aligned from the start through the post-auction details.
How much time does it take?
The timeline follows your event date, but the pattern is consistent — earlier months are lighter,
focused on building your team, locking the venue, and early sponsor outreach.
It gets more intense in the final four to six weeks before the event.

The Silent & Live Auction has traditionally been the largest fundraiser for Oak Hill.
